As in every big city in China, Ningbo has plenty to offer in the way of movie theaters. The most popular cinema in the city has long been the Ningbo Movie City, which was recently newly refurbished. The ultra-modern cinema located in the Wanda Plaza is probably the best place to watch a movie for cinephiles concerned about picture quality, though be prepared to fork out a bit more cash. The convenient location and host of nearby shorts makes the Ningbo Sea International Cinema another great choice, while the Jinyi International Cinema offers a picture quality rivaling that of Wanda Plaza for less money (albeit it's slightly out of the way).   

1) Wanda Plaza Cinema (Yinzhou Branch)
The Wanda Plaza Cinema (万达国际电影城) is a well-equipped modern cinema. Each of its eight screens features a high quality American QSC amplifier system and
giant “Wall to Wall Screen”. This cinema also has an IMAX screen, though prices are much steeper at 150 RMB a ticket. However, if you’re a China Merchant Bank account holders you can get half-price tickets.

2) Ningbo Movie CityView In Map
Ningbo Cinema City sits in a nice location overlooking the three rivers that run through the city. Featuring nine screens, the cinema was the first in Zhejiang Province to have big screens and digital 2K projectors, and despite its age it does use high-end audio and visual equipment. This cinema also has frequent group purchase discounts, which can be booked online at http://t.dianping.com.

3) Ningbo Sea International Cinema View In Map
The Ningbo Sea International Cinema is located on the 3rd floor of Ningbo’s largest shopping center, the Century Oriental Plaza (世纪东方广场). Four of its seven screens have 3D options. Popcorn is available at 16 RMB, and after watching a movie you can step outside to a host of shops and services nearby. As with many cinemas in China, group purchase discount tickets are often available online, though be sure to avoid the busy weekend rush.

4) Jinyi International CinemaView In Map
Open since April 2012, Jinyi International Cinema is a large complex with eight screens, two of which are equipped with high-end imported projectors for a truly epic cinema experience. Audio and visual capabilities are also well up to scratch, with Jinyi being the first cinema in the province to use an automatic screening system for high-definition viewing. The facilities surrounding the cinema are on par with Wanda Plaza, but it’s a bit further out from the city center, making it harder to get to.  If you’re willing to make the trip however it’s definitely worthwhile, as it’s still relatively unknown, and offers that rare but magical combination of being a modern, cheap, and pretty quiet Chinese cinema.
