Was Dwyane Wade Tricked by Fake Shaolin Monks?
Jul 21, 2016 By eChinacities.com

Dwyane Wade recently made headlines when he toured Shaolin Temple in Zhengzhou, the legendary birthplace of kung-fu. Wade and his wife burned incense and prayed at the temple this past Tuesday and were accompanied by what appeared to be two Shaolin monks. However, an official from Shaolin Temple said in a statement yesterday that the monks “were not Shaolin monks, and we cannot know if they were even real monks.” The official said that Wade did come to visit the temple, but it was not organized by Shaolin.

Xinhua shared pictures of Wade’s temple visit. The photos show two bald men in robes accompanying Wade in addition to his security personnel. However, the Xinhua report did not mention the two men or give their identities. International media reported the Wade was accompanied at the temple by monks.

“Recently, there have been many people posing as Shaolin monks trying to cheat tourists,” the temple posted on their official website. “This misleads visitors and hurts the reputation of the Shaolin Temple and Zen Buddhism.”

Zhengzhou was second stop of 2016 Wade China Tour. Wade started the tour in Shanghai on July 17, then visited Zhengzhou on the 19th. He appeared in Beijing yesterday and then will visit Shijiazhuang until the 25th.

You'd think that potentially annoying Shaolin monks would be pretty low down on people's lists of "Things that are a good idea to do"
