A student intern at the Nanfang Daily reported to Guangzhou, Tianhe police on Monday that she had been raped by a reporter at the newspaper.

Zhang, 21, is a junior at Jinan University. She reported to the police on June 27 that she had been raped by a colleague named Cheng, 29 in a hotel on Siyou’er Road in Guangzhou.

Online media reported the story early yesterday afternoon, writing that a Nanfang Daily reporter had raped a female intern on the afternoon of June 27. The Nanfang Daily issued an official statement saying that the matter is currently under investigation. Police have set up a task force to investigate the case.

Zhang said that on that day she had gone to the Nanfang Daily office to get documentation for her internship, and then had gone out to coffee with Cheng. During coffee, Cheng took Zhang’s I.D. card and forced her into a hotel room with him. He threatened to blackmail her if she would not have sex with him. After, Cheng sent her 2,000 RMB through WeChat. That evening, Zhang reported Cheng to the police.

A bit weird. Let's admit she willingly handled her ID for paperwork purpose which is legitimate, why did she followed him in the hotel room? She said he blackmailed her. But how? Just saying " If you don't have sex with me I don't give your ID back? " As troublesome as it is an ID in China only takes 7 days to renew.

you could argue to call it rape... if you don't have sex with me I keep your id... just walk away and call the police? not like it is so hard to get a new ID anyways. Seriously these kids have some brain damage Seems he didn't use any violence

Is it me? This sounds very fishy. Someone takes your ID card, scream for help, call the police, that's when you should pull out your phone and video tape someone. Chinese have 0 logical sense. And sadly in a rape happy country on par with India, the women are taught nothing about protecting themselves.
