Even More Disney: Shanghai Disneyland Resort FAQ (Part II)
Jun 21, 2016 By eChinacities.com

We rounded up a few tips on purchasing tickets and booking hotels in Part I of our Shanghai Disneyland FAQ. Here is more information on rides, lines, and food in the park.

4) Which rides are worth the wait?
The most popular rides during the park’s trial operations were Soaring Over the Horizon, TRON Lightcycle Power Run, and Pirates of the Caribbean– Battle for the Sunken Treasure.

Soaring Over the Horizon is a hang-gliding experience that takes visitors on a round-the-world simulation. Views include the Great Wall and Shanghai at night.

TRON Lightcycle Power Run is a high-speed indoor roller coaster, is very popular with young people. The digital-themed ride thrills in the dark with twists, turns and pulsing Daft Punk.

Pirates of the Caribbean–Battle for the Sunken Treasure takes guests on a ride through an intense pirate fight with ultra-realistic 4D effects.

The Chinese version of the classic Disney musical “The Lion King” will premiere at the park on June 14. The Broadway show first premiered on November 13, 1997. The Chinese version of the show is the ninth translated version.

5) How can I skip the lines?
Lines for rides at the park were long trial operations. Guests had to wait several hours for the most popular rides. Shanghai Disneyland has launched “Fast Pass” services to help alleviate the problem.

A Disneyland staff member told reporters that guests can receive free Fast Passes that let them skip the long lines. The Fast Passes will give guests a time where they can return to the ride and get on right away. The passes only work for seven popular rides and the park has a limited number available.

The staff member also suggested that visitors download the Disney App for real-time updates on ride queues.

Vice chairman of China Future Tourism Research Association Liu Simin said that hour-long waits for popular rides will be the norm at Shanghai Disneyland. He recommended that the park make waiting in line more bearable by putting on performances for guests in line and providing cooling mist.

6) What is the food situation like?
The park also offers dozens of restaurants. “To meet the needs of Chinese tourists, 70% of the food at our restaurants is Chinese, 20% is Asian cuisine, and 10% is Western food.” Guests who dine in the theme park’s restaurants can eat with Disney characters and take photos with them.

Netizens report that an average meal in the park costs about 80 RMB, while a bottle of water in the park costs 10 RMB.

7) Can I bring my own food?
Visitors can bring sealed, unopened food in its original packaging into the park. All other outside food and alcohol is prohibited. Disneyland staff said that guests can bring their own water, but the bottle “must have a cap.”

It would be worth it even just for the cultural experience of the queueing and the undoubtedly delicious 80 yuan noodles.
