High School Tries and Fails in a 21 Day Campaign Against Phones In Class
Apr 22, 2016 By eChinacities.com

Teachers at Chongqing Three Gorges College recently started a campaign in which students who signed up agreed to not play with their phones during class for 21 days. The campaign started on April 12 and runs until May 3. 400 students out of 842 enrolled in the campaign, but by April 19 there were only 103 left.

Students playing with their phones in class has become an issue for teachers at the high school. A teacher introduced the idea for the campaign in order for students to develop better study habits.

Participating students wear a rubber band that reads “phone ninja,” on their left wrist. If they do not play with their phones all day, they tweet at the school’s official Weibo or send a message to the school’s official WeChat. If a student plays with their phone during class, they must switch the rubber band to their right wrist to show that they have failed the challenge.

How about the parents taking their kids phones away when they drop them off at school and giving them back when they pick them up?..DUH.

There is a rather radical but 100% effective solution to that. First time the teacher catches a student, take their phone away overnight, give it back on the next day with a warning that says "next time I will keep it until the end of the semester". If they happen to not take this warning seriously and keep using their phone, then do it, take the phone away indefinitely, including the sim card in it because the real pain in the ass is having to get a new number and recovering all of your contacts. Parents complain? Don't care, teach your spoiled brat how to respect adults. I don't suggest breaking their phone/throwing it through the window, just take it away and give it back by the end of the semester, or whenever you feel like to.
