On March 3, the French embassy announced that nine visa application centers will be added to the existing six centers in China to accompany a significant rise in demand for French visas from Chinese tourists.

French embassy figures show that in 2015, French consulates and embassies issued more than 770,000 visas to Chinese citizens, representing an increase of nearly 40% over the previous year.

France remains the most popular tourism destination in Europe for Chinese citizens with more than 2 million Chinese tourists visiting the country in 2015.

The new visa application centers will be located in Changsha, Chongqing, Fuzhou, Hangzhou, Jinan, Kunming, Nanjing, Shenzhen and Xian, joining the current locations in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Shenyang and Wuhan.

Jinan and Chongqing centers officially opened on March 3. Opening dates for the remaining seven centers have yet to be determined.
