South China to Experience Blizzards, Record Low Temperatures

South China to Experience Blizzards, Record Low Temperatures
Jan 20, 2016 By eChinacities.com

A cold wave from Siberia has been ravaging its way through China this week. The Northeast will bear the brunt of the cold weather. For example, for the next two days, the minimum temperature in Genhe, Inner Mongolia will be -40°C, the city basically freezing over into an “icebox.”

Even South China will not be safe from the chill. Strong cold air, rain and snow will hit parts of South China on January 21.

The Central Metrological Observatory has predicted that the following areas will experience light to moderate rain turning to snow and blizzards from January 20 to 23: Hubei, southern Anhui, southern Jiangsu, Shanghai, central Zhejiang, northern Jiangxi, and north central Hunan. Heavy snows are expected to hit north central Zhejiang from January 20 to 22. The province is expected to experience 5-10 cm of snow, with 15-20 cm in some areas.

Jianghuai and other southern areas will experience cold air from January 23 to 24. Temperatures in Jiangsu and Zhejiang may fall below -10°C, a historical low for the region. Shanghai may also reach -10°C on January 19, the coldest recorded temperature for the city in 30 years in early January.

This is the time it sucks not to have any central heating in China. Those bloody heaters and AC units simply don't do the job...
