Four young people that had met online made a suicide pact that did not go as planned. The four planned to shut themselves in a room and kill themselves with carbon dioxide poisoning. Two of the group climbed out the window and survived. The other two died.

The two members of the group that escaped did not notify police or call an ambulance. They have been arrested on charges of intentional homicide.

Early this week, Zhejiang Jiangshan People’s Court sentenced the two who survived, Liu and Xie, to five years in prison. Xie and Liu must also jointly compensate the plaintiffs more than 500,000 Yuan.

Liu, 21, is a young woman from Jiangxi. Xie is a 20 year old man from Jiangshan, Zhejiang. They had previously made a suicide pact with Zhao, 22 and Chen 26, both from Jiangsu.

In the fall of 2014, the two met online and made the pact. On November 22, 2014 they met in a storeroom in downtown Jiangshan to commit suicide together.

The autumn of 2014, together with four similar to the country commit suicide through social network.

Liu and Xie found the carbon dioxide to be too much to handle and climbed out the window. They did not take any measures to rescue Zhao and Chen, who both died in the storage room.
