Yesterday, a number of passengers were injured on Hainan Airlines flight HU7148 from Chengdu to Beijing when the aircraft dropped 4200 meters in strong turbulence. Both passengers and crew were among the injured.

The flight arrived safely at Beijing Capital International Airport and medical staff was on the ground to care for those injured and arrange hospital transportation.

One passenger, Lin, said that the airplane dropped twice quickly and then began to free fall. “I did not fasten my seat belt, so I hit the ceiling and flew back into the aisle of the row behind me. When I got up, I looked around the cabin. It was a mess.”

Passenger Xiao Kan said that because of the weightlessness caused by the drop in height, objects began to fly around the cabin. The plane was very chaotic in some sections, he said.

Passengers said that the turbulence lasted a few minutes.

When the plane landed, “I saw a stewardess with a hand injury, her hand was wrapped up and bloody. Two flight attendants were also limping,” said Zhang, a passenger on the flight. She said that most people who were injured were not wearing seat belts and had foot and head injuries.

And this is another reason why on-board cameras would be a good thing. I wouldn't be saying this if people got killed, but I'd love to see how it looked, passengers hurled around the cabin weightlessly. The world has been deprived some amazing spontaneous entertainment, and I mourn the loss.

I feel sorry for the stewardesses or anyone who was going to the bathroom. If you were in your seat then you're a fucking idiot if you got injured. They tell you to keep your seatbelt on for exactly this reason.

Agreed! But do you think any of the people who experienced this will start fastening their seatbelts or stowing their items like instructed? Hahaha, yeah right. You'd have as much luck asking them to switch their phones off.

My god! Chaos on a plane that was NOT caused by Chinese passengers. This is a rare and wonderful thing.
