Three Young Men Charged for Assaulting Thief, Now Out on Bail
Feb 06, 2015 By eChinacities.com

Three young men who stopped a thief from escaping from a mall have been arrested and charged with assaulting the thief. The three are currently out on bail.

The three young men, all around 20 years old, apprehended the thief after they saw him loitering around with a big bag looking ‘suspicious’ in October. The police were called and the thief was arrested and taken away. It turned out that he had stolen around 5,000 RMB’s worth of goods.

However, the story continued, as the thief is now pressing charges against the three men, claiming that they assaulted him. At first, this was seen by police as a tactic to delay trial, but after further investigation, police discovered that the thief had in fact been injured. He had a lung contusion on his left side among other injuries.

When questioned by the police, the three men admitted to kicking the thief while he was on the floor, claiming that “they couldn’t help it” because the thief was so “arrogant”.

The three, who were originally congratulated by various staff of the mall, have now been criticized by the mall’s management, who footed the cost for the thief’s medical costs.

The three are now out on bail, awaiting trial.

Well it's called a citizen's arrest. Not a citizen's beatdown.

Who translated this? (The three, who were originally congratulated by various staff of the mall, have now been criticized by the mall’s management, who footed the cost for the thief’s medical costs.) According to the original chinese article 11 shop owners, five of whom had their goods stolen by the thief, sent a signed petition to the police praising the three good samaritans and they would foot the medical bill. After investigating the matter the mall's management said they were willing to foot the entire bill. 商城管理部门了解情况后表示,商城愿意出小偷的所有治疗费) view.inews.qq.com/a/NEW2015020600631902
