One restaurant owner in Yan’an, Shaanxi province has admitted to lacing his noodles with opium to keep his customers coming back for more.

The noodle shop owner-surnamed Zhang- bought poppy buds, crushed them into a powder and started sprinkling it on noodles, no doubt hoping to create a noodle dependency in his customers.

However, he was busted when one of his customers tested postive in a drugs test, despite never having touched drugs. Liu Juyou, suspecting that the noodle shop was to blame, persuaded several relatives to eat at the shop and then take a drugs test. They all tested positive, and reported their findings to the police.

Unfortunately, the police still dismissed Liu’s appeal against his detention, even after they arrested Zhang, as apparently, accidental drug use is still punishable by law.
