A woman who found a stranger’s phone in the back of a cab attempted demanded 2,000 RMB for its safe return.
Ms Sun grabbed a taxi on the evening of September 11 in Nanjing and absentmindedly left her phone on the seat when she got out. She hoped that someone would find it and contact her, and the next passenger in the taxi, Ms Liu, did just that. As Ms Sun wanted to meet that night, and was no doubt grateful, she offered to give a reward for returning the phone.
However, when the two met up to hand over the phone, Ms Liu demanded 2,000 RMB compensation. Ms Sun gave a counter offer of 500 RMB given that the phone was a Xiaomi worth 1,799 RMB and had already been used for a year. Ms Liu was unsatisfied with this, as the only reason she’d gone to the trouble to come out late at night to meet Ms Sun was because she’d been promised a reward.
After attempting to haggle for a while Ms Liu dropped her asking price to 1,500 RMB, but Ms Sun didn’t budge, so the matter has yet to be resolved.
