A 48 year old auntie and a man who was born in 1989 are making waves on social media after they registered to get married in their hometown of Haining in Zhejiang Province.
Although seeing an over the hill old man marrying a nubile young college student wouldn’t get as much as a second glance here, in a country where unmarried women over the age of 26 are charmingly referred to as ‘Leftover Women’, this is fairly newsworthy.
The bride is only a year younger than her new father in law and the groom is one year younger than his new step daughter.

Aaaaand this is why literal translations are problematic... in Mandarin, middle aged women are called "ayi", which translates to "aunt", or "auntie", if you prefer. When it is translated directly... it sounds like incest.
