Dozens Killed in Xinjiang Police Station Attack

Dozens Killed in Xinjiang Police Station Attack
Jul 30, 2014 By eChinacities.com

Dozens of Uyghur and Han civilians were killed on the morning of Monday July 29 in Elixku Township in Xinjiang province, after a group of people armed with knives and axes attacked a local police station.

Police shot and killed a significant number of the attackers, in what Xinhua news is calling a ‘organized and premeditated terrorist attack’. The attack came on Eid al-Fitr, the festival signifying the end of Ramadan and a holy day for Muslims.

The exact number of attackers and deceased wasn’t released; media in the troubled north western region is tightly controlled and news from the area can often be delayed or suppressed by state media.

This attack is the latest in a series of violent outbreaks in the region; at the end of May this year the provincial capital Urumqi was rocked by a car bombing that killed 39 people and injured nearly 100.

I find it quite a telling insight that a story such as this has not even provoked one comment. What a state of affairs for the human race.

Diver@ I think that's because we've been hearing about Xinjiang too many times, it no longer adds to the shock that we got initially. Probably most of us will say, "oh, are they at it again?" And we will carry on with whatever we left off at.
