Overenthusiastic Officials Put 150 Bins on 200m Path
Jul 29, 2014 By eChinacities.com

Shenzhen officials have lined a walkway in Bao’an District with more than 100 bins in order to discourage litterbugs from throwing their trash on the ground.  The path is only 200 meters long, leading to the trash receptacles being called an ‘army of bins’.

With two bins flanking each side of the benches on the walkway there is now no excuse not to use them.  The idea came from a local factory owner who hopes that the sea of rubbish bins will inspire people to protect the environment by putting trash in its rightful place.

is the 'local factory owner' who came up with the idea related/connected to the manufacturer of the bins?

It is an overkill, the trouble is the people but they have to start somewhere. I wish they would put as many bins in Majai where we are. Its disgusting. Can't wait to get out of here.

No matter how many bins you put there , uncivilized act will remain the same . The problem is not with lack of bins but with people !

This. Having one bin or one hundred bins doesn't solve the problem. Laws need to be enforced. Planes have toilets also, yet stupid grandparents stll allow grandchildren to shit on the floor. http://www.smh.com.au/travel/travel-planning/travel-news/passengers-rage-as-child-defecates-in-plane-seat-report-20140729-3cr0x.html

Cedar Point amusement park in America I recall used to have the trash bins every few feet as well to discourage litter bugs, and it worked quite well. I think this can help give people a hint, and later on they can move the trash bins to other parks or streets. Often some streets are so full of litter it becomes a bad habit of the street always staying dirty. Once people see it clean for an extended amount of time, it may stay that way even if 80% of the trash bins are removed.

Little bit overkill but great none the less. Hopefully they continue this elsewhere.
