Henan : 127 Students Use James Bond Level Technology to Cheat on Gaokao

Police in Henan province are investigating exam practices after CCTV ran an expose on cheating on the college entrance exam known as the gaokao.

Over 127 students have been implicated in the investigation which has revealed a wide scale money making operation, whereby college students would take the gaokao in place of a high school student. The student could earn 20,000-50,000 RMB, depending on how good the final exam results were.

The ‘fixer’,surnamed Li who orchestrated the operation, would kit the students out with ingenious means to overcome the strict gaokao security measures. The test takers were given films of the students’ fingerprints to wear over their own fingers to fool the fingerprint scanning machines, meant to prevent exactly this kind of cheating.

Li didn’t reveal exactly how much he charged, but claimed that the children of rich families and local government officials were among his clientele.

Seven exam invigilators and two students involved in the scheme have been taken into police custody so far, with more to follow as the investigation continues.
