Large numbers of couples are currently in a race against time to have their babies in the auspicious year of the horse, meaning the baby has to be born before February 19 2015. Any later than that then the child will be born in the dreaded year of the sheep, meaning the baby will be doomed to a life of failure and misery, according to Chinese superstition.
People born in the year of the sheep are traditionally very unlucky; they can’t find happiness in marriage, they are born to follow, not to lead. Whereas people born in the year of the horse will supposedly lead a blessed existence.
There has been a huge surge in birth consultations as couples are going to extreme measures to ensure their child’s fate, to the extent that doctors have been asked whether the baby can be taken out by cesarean section earlier than the due date. There is also a growing concern amongst doctors that there will also be an increase in abortions in the second half of this year.

Some cultures and traditions are different... good or bad... who are we to say? Well, when it involves loss of human life due to mass-abortions or delivering babies ahead of schedule (very unhealthy) to avoid a ridiculous superstition in the year 2014... At least the hospitals will have a prosperous year... in the unlucky year of the sheep. Seems a bit orchestrated, no?
