A starving man grabbed a woman on the Shanghai Metro yesterday and put a knife to her throat - because he was trying to get into prison. The incident took place around 21:00 on Monday April 28 at Shanghai South Railway Station.
The man apparently hadn’t eaten for two days and did this with the express purpose of getting arrested so he could get his hands on some delicious prison food.
The woman was distressed, but ultimately unharmed, as the man let her go as soon as he was confident that he had created enough of a scene for someone to call the police.
This will no doubt raise questions about how he was able to achieve this given most major cities have been making a lot of noise about increased security measures and have been on terror alert since the Kunming attacks last month.
Let’s hope that the prison food was worth it, as he may be eating it for a very long time to come.

They're probably posing for the picture to be taken by an eChinacities guy. As they lack interesting or relevant contents and information, they might have got this couple of friends trying to help it.

Increased security in the subway? I haven't seen it. Besides 2 or 3 stations checking bags, almost all other subway stops have no bag check, and if you put something in the pocket of your coat, they definitely will not check.

2 or 3 stations checking bags? Are we talking about the same Shanghai? I've noticed I can skim by the xray by simply slapping my bag to prove it doesn't explode.

Had he done this in Australia, he would have been given prison food, a hot shower, comfortable bed, an X-box, legal representation and compensation.

USA is still #1. Our prisoners have cable TV and medical/dental benefits. Too.

You'd be surprised to know that this actually happens in many countries.
