Hospital in Harbin Caught Prescribing Medicine to Dead Patient

Hospital in Harbin Caught Prescribing Medicine to Dead Patient
Apr 03, 2014 By eChinacities.com

On March 28 a post on the Tianya discussion forum gained a lot of attention; the post described how between February 2-11, 41 year old Jin Ying was billed for 22,000 RMB’s worth of treatment after she had already died.

A list of the medical records and hospital fees was posted, clearly showing that when Jin Ying was declared dead on February 23 the hospital bill came to 197,000RMB; however, two days later the record showed that the bill had jumped up to 219,000 RMB meaning an extra 22,000 RMB had materialized out of thin air. On top of this, the bill for the ICU charged for 24 hour supervisory care, but on February 21 the hospital charged for 25 hours, which unsurprisingly struck the deceased person’s relatives as slightly suspicious.

Jin Ying’s brother said that in order not to delay treatment, he paid a huge deposit of 248,000RMB. “Of course we pay what we need to pay, but it’s terrible that they’re charging more. We didn’t pay the deposit so the hospital can randomly deduct money from it.”

The hospital is yet to comment on the matter.

Hate the medical system in China so much ! Is the worst from the world ! If a person no has money, he or she has to die here ! Is not human what happend here ! They has no human feelings for peoples ! every time when I get sick here, for example as last time when I was need a surgery, I schedule my flight back to my country to do it ! I preffer stay in hospital safe and without pay any money to anyone ! Once i pay a medical insurance that cover everything , including hospital and surgeries, it cost me only 50 euro ! In China it cost you every day and every day they wil come up in your room with the "bill" of treatment that in fact they did not administred to you ! They know to make only new buildings anywhere, but why don't think to investing that money in the medical system or to change this idiot way of charging and to give free to peoples for an ambulance when is need or for other medical services ! in my country we pay nothing to came an ambulance ! We pay nothing to go to hospital at emergency room ! All emergency room system is free ! and my country is a poor country, not as China ! So China could do more than my country, but they just think money !!!

All hospitals are scammers. It's disgusting how in a "civilized" society the Chinese have no shame in cheating people who come to them for help when they're ill.

I work in the medical industry and heave dealt with many hospitals in Guangdong province. They are all crooks.

Not just Guangdong. The windowdressing service is provided nationwide, and it's extremely difficult to find any institution that is half-competent and offers effective treatments. Everyone's so focused on the money side of the equation, that they don't even know how to do their jobs. It's no different with unhelpful catering/service staff, bribe-hungry civil servants or lazy, self-important military officers.

Credit to the hospital for really going beyond the call of duty. Western hospitals give up on a corpse after only a few minutes. But this hospital continued administering treatment for DAYS. That's the type of generosity you won't find anywhere but China.
