Factory Using Feet-Washing Water to Make Rice Noodles Exposed in Kunming
Jul 23, 2013 By eChinacities.com

On July 17, a local of a village in the northern area of the Kunming municipality revealed that a workshop in the village had been for a long time making rice noodles with dirty water. The same water was reportedly used to wash clothes, food, and even people’s feet; with nearby children also throwing bits of trash into it too.

Following the revelations, the workshop was fined 50,000 RMB by the Kunming Quality Inspection Branch. Sulfur was also found in the rice noodles, a matter which the police are currently investigating.

This follows a series of exposures of dodgy rice noodle manufacturing in the area, with four factories being exposed for quality issues at the end of May this year. As of July 22 however, a reporter found that these workshops were still working as normal, and that nothing had been done.

What’s even more scary is that these workshops account for a staggering 94% of the daily rice noodle supply for Kunming.

I think what he meant to say was, "luckily because it was only 6% of the noodles in Kunming I probably haven't eaten any because I can afford the high end brand..."
