Hundreds of tons of low quality plastic originating from the UK has been sent "back home" after rejection by Chinese authorities, according to a November 12 report in the Daily Telegraph. According to the report, China will no longer accept low-grade plastic sent from the UK, due to "contamination" by other materials.

It is interesting given the level of contamination in the "Recyclable" compartment of public bins on the street. I know of one shopping mall in New Zealand that has done away with this type of rubbish bin because you cant easily recycle waste that is contaminated with food etc., and the fact that people dont put the right waste type into the right bin compartments. I would assume it all goes into a giant bin and gets sorted by hand here. I wouldn't want that job!

Good point! I recently read this article on China Smack: Chinese Villagers’ Homes Forcibly Demolished As They Slept.

The most ironic line of the article states, "the local government has already gotten involved and opened an investigation." They're the ones who orchastrated the "incident."
