Otis in Trouble Again after Fatal Accident in Yan’an
Jul 18, 2011 By eChinacities.com

On the morning of July 13th, a male body was found in the elevator pit of Guosheng Hotel, Yan’an. The family of the deceased believes it was the dysfunction of the elevator that caused the man to fall into the pit and die. Although the cause of the accident is still under investigation, the elevator has been identified as being made by Otis, the world’s largest manufacturer of vertical transportation systems.

Otis has come into the media spotlight ever since the tragic accident at the Beijing Zoo Station on the morning of July 5th, in which a teenage boy was killed, two passengers were seriously wounded and 26 were slightly injured. The investigation concluded that the malfunction occurred as a result of a loose component in the Otis 513MPE escalator. The National Bureau of Quality Inspection ordered the 7th of July a nationwide emergency halt to the usage of Otis 513MPE escalators.

Many cities, including Shenzhen, where an escalator incident recently left two injured, have already suspended purchases of Otis products and halted operation of Otis escalators in their respective subway systems.

Hey Carl, wake up...i happen to know the difference between British and American English thanks, however it was an Elevator or Lift depending which side of the pond you come from, and not an ESCALATOR and if you don't know the difference between those two forms of Machinery, i suggest you google it or wikipedia the item....my point was it was saying it was an escalator when infact it was a lift/Elavator....

Its an ELEVATOR not escalator, and how on earth did he fall into the pit without either A) looking to see if the actual elevator car was there before walking into it, or B) The floor of said car opened up and he fell through it. And before the hatchet is truly buried into Otis back, this is still under investigation....and i am edging bets a high level of Alcohol was involved.
