Having an almost identical situ with my family as well... Have a 5 year old daughter and 9 month old son.... The 'Waiguoren' or 'Gweilo' shouting does my head in as well,at times...Some days i just ignore it.. others i shout back look there is a 'zhongguoren'..which confuses the hell out of them and makes my daughter laugh and not be so uncomfortable (cos then i am the silly one!) I think she struggles with her identity as looks completely white, treated as such (until they get to know her) but is also tri-lingual and only knows life in Guangdong. But this is beginning to change due to spending a day a week now mixing with several other mixed race families..which is a huge benefit in being able to identify in my eyes. Same, same with the in laws and also plan to go back to the UK when my son is primary school age and my daughter secondary school age as i also wish my kids to experience an actual childhood rather than spending all their time at school working rather than living and playing. Great article chap..eerily similar life to mine!
