According to reports from multiple media outlets on March 13th, America is making preparations for an April visit from China’s president Xi Jinping. In response, during a routine press conference on the 14th Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Hua Chunying, stated that both America and China take high-level relations between the two countries very seriously. Currently, the two countries are making a push at all levels of government to maintain close communications.

CNN, citing American government sources, stated that Trump plans to host Xi at his Mar a Lago club in the first meeting between the two heads of state since Trump took office. Secrectary of State, Rex Tillerson, will make necessary arrangements for Xi and Trump’s Florida getaway with Chinese authorities after he arrives in China on the 18th of March.

The White House has also stated that the major focus of the meeting between Xi and Trump will be the recent tensions and deployment of the THAAD system on the Korean Peninsula, as well as the preservation of both parties’ common interests in the region.

Sean Spicer said, “It's the purpose of this meeting, of that kind of a meeting, to help defuse tensions over North Korea and the recent deployment of a THAAD military battery to South Korea.”

Another spokesperson for the U.S. State Department stated, “The important thing is we need to know, what is the agenda, What is our core concern with China, and how we can establish this kind of relationship from a positive, stable and cooperative foundation.  Where can we work more closely with China? Obviously this includes North Korea, the economy and other areas.”

Axios, an American internet media outlet, cited quotes from American officials that Xi’s visit may take place from April 6th to 7th.
