Man Extorted By Beijing Prostitute for 10,000 Yuan Tip, Too Embarrassed to Call Police

Editor's Note: This article, translated from QQ News, tells the story of a man who was blackmailed by a prostitute for a 10,000 Yuan tip and threatened by a thug who said he would report the man to the police for hiring the prostitute if he did not pay up. The man later said that he was too embarrassed to call the police on the two. However, the police coincidentally showed up at the same hotel after someone called in an anonymous tip about drugs. It is unclear if someone related to the incident tipped off the police, or the man was just lucky. In the end, only the prostitute and the thug were arrested, and the man who hired the prostitute was framed as the victim of the case.

A Chinese American professor visiting Beijing was blackmailed by a prostitute for a 10,000 Yuan tip. When he refused to tip her, her hired thug threatened to call the police on him. At the same time, police received an anonymous report about drugs in the same hotel and broke into the room, saving the man from extortion.

Haidian police detained two suspects yesterday in the case. Police said that the suspects took advantage of the victim because he was too embarrassed to report their blackmail threats to the police.

Found in Drug Raid

On the morning of July 4, Haidian police received an anonymous tip saying that there were drugs in a certain hotel in the district. Police were dispatched to the scene and did not find any drugs. Instead, they found a flustered, disheveled, and incoherent couple who did not know each others' identities.

The police found another man in the bathroom of the hotel. The three people in the hotel room all had different stories of what had happened. It turns out that one of the men was being blackmailed by the woman who was a prostitute.

Calling Card

The Chinese American man, named Liu, had been invited to Beijing to give a talk. On the morning of July 4, Liu saw that a small card had been placed under his door. On impulse, he called the number to hire a prostitute. The two sides negotiated a fee of 500 Yuan. However, Liu did not expect the prostitute to demand a tip of 10,000 Yuan and threaten him for not paying up.

The prostitute's hired thug said that he had connections in the police department, and if Liu did not give more money, then he would turn him in for hiring a prostitute. Liu, feeling helpless, agreed to pay 5,000 Yuan. At that time, police unexpectedly broke into the hotel room after receiving the report about drugs.

The Set Up

Police interrogated Zhang, the prostitute, and Li, the thug, who both confessed. Li had distributed the advertisement in the hotel that morning and had left their boss's phone number.

Li received instructions from his boss to go to the hotel with Zhang. When Zhang entered Liu's room,  Li waited outside. Later, Li pretended to be the boss and threatened Liu over the phone, demanding a 10,000 Yuan tip.

Liu immediately hung up the phone after Li threatened to report him to the police. Li then entered the room to intimidate Liu, and Liu agreed to fork over 5,000 Yuan.

Zhang and Li had extorted a number of victims in recent months in the same way. Most of the victims did not report the crime. At present, Zhang and Li had been detained on the suspicion of extortion. Zhang will also be charged separately for acts of prostitution.

How many "Liu"s are there in the world? That's like posting an article saying a "John" in america was caught with a prostitute.
