Filipina Nanny Jailed for Stealing Cash and Cards from Beijing Employer

Filipina Nanny Jailed for Stealing Cash and Cards from Beijing Employer
Jul 19, 2016 By eChinacities.com

A Filipina nanny was recently sentenced to six months in prison and deported for stealing from her Beijing employer.

JuLi, a Filipina woman, arrived in China in March 2014 on a tourist visa. She did not apply for an extension after her visa expired, and stayed in the country to work illegally as a nanny. Ms. Li hired JuLi as a nanny through an agency and did not try to verify her paperwork or identity because she trusted the agency.

After a day-long trial period, Ms. Li was not happy with JuLi and decided not to hire her. However, when Ms. Li was on the second floor, JuLi stole a wallet with 1,627 RMB in it from the living room and five China Mobile recharge cards worth a total of 500 RMB. She also stole a gift card with 500 RMB on it. JuLi put the cards and cash in the wallet and stuck it behind the toilet to steal it later.

The next day, Ms. Li realized the wallet was missing and called the police. The police found that the wallet was hidden behind the toilet in Mrs. Li’s apartment. JuLi was arrested and confessed to the crime. The wallet, cash, and cards were returned to Ms. Li.

A Haidian court held that JuLi’s actions constituted theft. Because she had pleaded guilty, and the items had been recovered, the court only sentenced her to six months in prison and fined her 1,000 RMB. She will be deported after serving her sentence.

Wait the items were hidden behind the toilet and she did not actually steal the items? Smells like a setup revenge for a certain court's ruling in favour of a certain country.

Funny, how the "employer" gets no punishment and how this is news... Is it China's weak attempt at getting back at the Philippines for the recent South China Sea dispute? Probably... Chinese can be petty like that.
