Mr. Zhou from Zhengzhou recently spent hundreds of thousands of RMB to purchase the license plate “桂K88888.” Ironically, he bought the plate for his Wuling Sunshine minivan, worth 30,000 RMB.
Mr. Zhou was stopped by police Sunday evening who did not believe his license plate was real. The police who stopped him expressed their doubts about the license plate. One policeman even said, “If that license plate is real, I’ll eat it.” The police ran the plate and found that it was real.
On Saturday, the truck was pulled over eight times by police. Every policeman who saw the minivan, pulled it over. When Mr. Zhou began driving again, he never got far until he was pulled over again.
Mr. Zhou said that people took pictures of the car all day. He was asked multiple times how much he spent to buy the license plate. Every time he tried to park, he had to fend off questions for at least half an hour.
Why did Mr. Zhou decide to buy the license plate for his minivan? Mr. Zhou said that he used the minivan to transport fruit, and purchased the license plate for advertising purposes. He said that he had not expected the license plate to cause so much trouble.
