Huawei to Sue Samsung for Intellectual Property Infringement
May 25, 2016 By eChinacities.com

Huawei has filed intellectual property lawsuits against Samsung in both California and Shenzhen. Huawei claims that Samsung infringed on the Chinese mobile giant’s cellular technology and software innovations and is asking for compensation. Huawei believes that it is entitled to compensation after Samsung used its patented technology without permission.

Samsung said on Wednesday that it has readied a defense against Huawei’s lawsuit.

“We will conduct a thorough assessment of the proceedings and take appropriate actions to defend Samsung’s commercial interests,” the South Korean company said in an emailed statement. Samsung is currently the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer.

Huawei invested 59.2 billion RMB (9.2 billion USD) in R&D in 2015. The same year, Huawei applied for 3,898 patents, an increase of 456 from the previous year. Huawei holds 50,377 total patents including those for specific LTE communications, smart phone operating systems, and UI.
