Chinese students with higher credit scores may have an easier time getting hired at large companies like Dell and McDonald’s corporate. On May 9, Zhejiang University hosted the first National Students’ Credit Recruitment Fair. Sesame Credit acted as a third-party credit reporter and consulted with university students and recent graduates.

Sesame Credit, which is owned by Ant Financial, is an independent third-party credit agency. The company evaluates credit scores for individuals and corporations. A score of 350 to 550 is considered poor credit, 550 to 600 is moderate credit, 600 to 650 is good credit, 650 to 700 is excellent, and 700 to 950 is very excellent.

Sesame Credit has also joined up with local governments. In Hangzhou, for example, residents can look up their “city credit history,” on Sesame Credit. This credit history is affected by factors like administrative penalties, overdue payments on loans, and more.

“We recruit students that have higher credit scores, and will give higher priorities to those who have good credit history. We recommend that college students develop good credit habits early,” said Dell China senior recruitment manager Wu Jie.

Vice president of Niudian Science and Technology Co Ltd. Zhang Yibo said that good credit is a key consideration when the company hires new recruits. Zhang said that a good credit score demonstrates professionalism.

The companies at the fair were also recruiting for multiple open full-time and part-time positions as well as internships.
