Hangzhou Citizen Cracks Counterfeit Parking Ticket Case That Fooled Traffic Police

A Hangzhou man was recently arrested for forging parking tickets for his own car.

A white Mercedes-Benz C200 was parked illegally long-term near the entrance of a swimming pool. Local traffic police had put on a ticket on the car daily saying that the car was illegally parked. However, it seemed the owner did not care. The ticket disappeared every day.

This unusual case caused a local citizen named Wang to stakeout the car, and find out who owned it. He watched the car for more than 10 days, and found out an even bigger secret: the “tickets” had been made and posted daily by the owners themselves to stop the police from ticketing the car.

Wang reported that he suspected the car had been using forged tickets to deter police. Later that day, he came back to the car and saw a traffic policeman stop in front of it, read the ticket on the hood, and leave. Wang suspected that the owners posted a different ticket every day to trick traffic police.

Wang recounted his case to the media, which led Hangzhou police to conduct a preliminary investigation of the incident. Police arrested a man surnamed Jin, who owned the vehicle. Jin had been creating his own parking tickets for his car since March 2016. Jin was detained for 13 days and fined 600 Yuan for counterfeiting government documents.
