Forbidden City Scalpers Sell 300 Yuan Tickets during Qingming Festival

300 Yuan for a Forbidden City Ticket? How about 3,000 Yuan for Shanghai Disney? Scalpers were selling tickets to tourist attractions for ridiculous amounts during Qingming Festival.

The Forbidden City now only sells 80,000 tickets daily. On April 3, tickets sold out by noon. Scalpers sold tickets outside the gates for 150 to 300 Yuan a pop. Forbidden City tickets usually go for 60 Yuan. Scalpers reassured tourists that the re-sold tickets were genuine.

Ms. Li from Guizhou purchased three Forbidden City tickets from a scalper at 150 Yuan each for a total of 450 Yuan. “Traveling with parents is not easy, buying from scalpers is the easiest way,” she said.

The prices for scalped tickets this past weekend outside of Shanghai Disneyland Resort were extremely high. There was a high demand for tickets outside the gate after the ticketing system experienced several system failures. Official tickets were being sold for 370 and 499 Yuan, while scalped tickets went for over 1,000 Yuan. Scalpers were spotted selling tickets for 3899 Yuan—10 times the original price.

They can do the same as China Railways did: ID Card and one ticket per person. Bye scalpers.

Hold on for a minute here. Unlike hospitals, The Forbidden City and Disneyland don't have a daily limit of ticket sales, also people are not in need of medical assistance. So why would anyone in their right mind buy from these scalpers?

You are coming from Guizhou which is 2000 km away to see that and when you are on the spot they don't have tickets... so... well, I guess that they were a little bit desperate to buy a ticket.
