A noodle staple for Shaanxi residents “Biang Biang Noodles” has made its name in Chengdu. Though a household noodle recipe, not all Shaanxi residents will be happy to oblige the laborious act of writing out the Chinese ligature character “biang,” noted to be “possibly one of the most complex characters in Chinese.” What if you are asked to write that said character a thousand times for being tardy for class? An undergrad at the Chengdu College of University of Electronic Science and Technology of China knew exactly how that felt, because he was late for TA Wang Sijun’s class. The undergrad understandably gave up after the two hundredth attempt. Another late crasher to class was asked to put his drawing skills to use and sketch one hundred terra cotta warriors.
Wang Sijun said that he had only had to punish the above two students for showing up late for class since establishing the rules. Wang is pleased that his creativity in punishing tardy students is reaping good results.

Well, I can attest to the lack of student motivation and overall willingness to learn once they enter college. I completely agree with this tactic.
