Wow! Do you want to give me details? What is the name of this place? What is your family's name? My family owns property and real estate in CA, NY, and TX. My family might one day buyout that little chitty northeast NJ city your family co-founded. You'll be my family's little b!tch. I'll be laughing at you when you shed those tears. Buhbye.

Most foreigners in China these days are your typical LBH (Loser Back Home) English teacher.

Fact, most of the people who post online about LBH, are losers themselves.

"Going through the North American education system means we are taught to think critically and question the reasons behind why things are done." ??? Huh!!! Ok, can any one of our deeply critically thinking Yanks tell us why is the USA bankrupt for starters? Why are you guys so fat? Why your children shoot each other at school? That is just for starters...does not seem as if so-called critical thinking has done much for US education with norms like these, or? Then again, the locals are willing to stuff themselves with almost any ludicrous BS the Yanks can dream up to fool themselves and said locals...lalala-land...

Same reason so many Chinese want to leave China and their #1 destination is USA.

Companies are looking more for active qualifications to passive ones. Passive qualifications are like things like, I have traveled to that country, I am very creative, organized, punctual, good cultural knowledge, I know Chinese people well... blah blah blah... nobody really cares. Active qualifications are like, I have worked in that sector for 10 years, I achieved my sales target of $1000000 for X company, I successfully built and managed my own business for five years, I won a gold medal in the Olympics... Passive means you have the potential to DO something (like generate more sales for a company because you are have a white face or offer a new perspective), it is a risk most companies don't want to take... Active means you have done it or are doing it now (concrete evidence)... it is proof. Companies don't like to gamble. They need to produce results or go under... you may be a nice white/black/yellow/brown/purple guy, well traveled, write nice articles and taught ESL for 10 years with tons of good ideas but... sorry... I am taking the Chinese guy that has 5 years experience in marketing and hitting his sales target every year for the past three years that asks for half your salary.

To answer the question posed, about as valuable as the man in the back of the picture.

I am 99% sure this writer is an English Teacher, but tells people hes a journalist when is sole publications are this article. The same shit time and time again. Foreigners should be valued because we have a different perspective! Because we are foreigners! So everyone should bow down and kiss my ass! I want an executive position because im white and i see things..... with a fresh pair of eyes? The whole article just stinks of a person with zero experience whatsoever. So your telling me because you where born in a first world country that you automatically have knowledge of your countries... say... telecommunications market? Or you are a foreigner so this makes you far more equipt to be our companies marketing manager! What did you do in america BTW? Oh...... Gas station, i see. It doesnt matter where you where born, if you dont have relevant experience or knowledge in that field. You are useless. Just a student, that needs to be taught at a cost far more than a Chinese person but with a far worse work ethic. I previously worked in one of Chinas top ten brands. Very international. And beleive me, they can easily hire chinese people with perfectly adequate english skills to erase any potential embarrassments. No chance thats a full time job. You do your work, and twice a week someone will say " hey mike, does this look ok? " Thats not a job. Im not saying these companies wont hire foreigners, or that foreigners in China shouldnt try. They should, because you can learn valuable knowledge and skills, but lets call a spade a spade here, they are taking on a handicapped person only because he is a foreigner. And then guiding you along until you are useful. You bring zero usefulness to the company until you actually learn to do something. UNLESS this was your job back home.

Exactly, Hard truth, people don't like it but that's why it is not called the "Easy" truth. The old days of China hiring foreigners because of a cultural idiocy (white face = successful company) is over. Time to break out the resume and references.

Another boring article comparing China to America. How about doing some proper research and actually writing an article that applies to all expats - not just Americans.

Or some real work, not just writing / teaching. I am technician working at govt.place, and I can see lot of incompetent people with lot of stars on shoulders... They know how to learn from books, but they can not apply said "knowledge" in real situation. I talk about those with stars. the ones bellow them, are happy when I teach them something new :-)
