A woman living in Zhuhai’s father forced her to have an abortion when her boyfriend could not pay for her 200,000 Yuan dowry.
Xiao Qiang was very excited this past December when he found out his girlfriend was pregnant. He planned to marry her, and asked her parents for permission. His girlfriend’s father said that Xiao Qiang could only marry his daughter if he paid a 200,000 Yuan dowry.
Xiao Qiang could not afford to pay 200,000 Yuan and traveled to Jiangxi to plead his case to his girlfriend’s father. He said that he could only pay 50,000 Yuan and asked if he could pay the rest of the money later. His girlfriend’s father refused. Xiao Qiang then scraped around and came up with 120,000 Yuan. He found out the next day that his girlfriend had been taken to the hospital by her father to get an abortion.
A post detailing this story has recently gone viral online in China. There are many Netizens who want to raise money for Xiao Qiang. Chinese media has not been able to get in contact with Xiao Qiang or his girlfriend as of press time.

This article best demonstrates the worst of Chinese culture. Not everyone is like this but... there are a surprising amount in China that find NOTHING wrong with this article. And that's what is so terrifying about this country. In other news, netizens want to donate to this poor guy so he could marry his girlfriend but all that does is reinforce this awful part of the culture. For the record, my in-laws did not ask for a bride price and even went out of their way to help pay for most of the wedding ceremony. There is hope here!!!

Hey, don't say here that you are sooo poor .... all Chinese Monkeys will laughing on you because you were unable pay for your ceremonies.. and be sure the bride will divorcing few years or months later from now on.. because they paid FOR YOUR NATIONALITY, NOT FOR YOUR CEREMONY ! keep in mind this, they must take back what they spent... and this is the single way they wull can do. Maybe you don't know China well yet !

My in laws (who are awesome) never asked for a dowry, but clearly if they did I would have told them straightforward to shove up their feudal traditions where I think.

This is disgusting. On a seperate note: a dowry is what the girl's father pays in case a male heir is not produced (which has nothing to do with the girl, genetically). When the male pays, it is a bride price. This is English.
