More Chinese Tourists are Traveling Abroad than Ever Before

In 2015, outbound tourism from China reached 120 million according to annual statistics recently published by the World Tourism Organization. Spring Festival outbound tourism is expected to hit 6 million.

Chinese tourists spent an average of 11,624 Yuan while abroad in 2015, an increase of 24.1%. This trend will continue for tourists traveling out of China during Spring Festival 2016. Tourists will spend an average of 10,000 Yuan per capita.

China’s substantial growth in outbound tourism has mainly been due to visa relaxation, an increase of flight routes, and general economic development. This has helped increase the enthusiasm of Chinese tourists for international travel.

China’s inbound tourism is stable as well. In 2015, 17.6 million people traveled to China from other countries from South Korea, Japan, the United States, Russia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Mongolia, Singapore, the Philippines, India, and more. South Korean tourism to China increased by 5.4%, and Indian tourism increased by 4.9%.

Reports show that China’s pollution has been a negative factor for tourism. Foreign tourists are “more sensitive” to the air pollution than domestic tourists.
