Woman Gets Picked Up by Off-Duty City Bus While Using Zhuan Che App

Woman Gets Picked Up by Off-Duty City Bus While Using Zhuan Che App

A Shanghai woman called a car using Kuaididi’s Yi Hao Zhuan Che, which follows a similar model to Uber. She was shocked when a city bus pulled up to pick her up instead.

Ms. Chen called a private car using the Yi Hao Zhuan Che app earlier this month to take her to Caobao Road Station. The app told her that she would be picked up shortly in a red SUV. The driver called her and said he had arrived, but Chen could not find him.

Chen called the driver, who insisted that he had arrived. She was then approached by a man in his thirties driving a city bus, claiming to be the driver. He told her, “I have to drive back to  Caobao Road Station, anyways after the last stop on my route. I just finished the last stop of the day, and your Zhuan Che request came up.” Chen was in a hurry to get home, so she climbed on the bus despite her doubts about the driver.

The driver explained that driving for Zhuan Che was only a part-time gig for him. He had just finished up his last route, and probably should have driven the bus directly back to the designated parking lot in the west of the city. He would usually drive it back with a “not in service” sign. However, he felt like this was a “waste of resources.” Instead of driving the bus back to the lot with no one inside, he could pick up a passenger and drop them along with way.

When Chen was dropped off at the station, she gave the driver a positive rating. She paid the 26.5 Yuan fare and added a 4 Yuan tip.

The driver had no comment on the matter when contacted by reporters.

The fool is not the bus driver but the woman who paid 26 yuan for a bus trip that would normally cost 2 yuan. Otherwise it's fine in China to use the company's vehicles for personal matters, I always did this when I actually worked for someone else, was never blamed for it.

Haha, I find this hilarious. What a resourceful guy. Some people will probably get mad or pissy about this saying "I can't believe the lack of standards in China... bla bla bla" but it's things like this which make China a fun and crazy place. Don't be so uptight, enjoy the differences and have a laugh. Peace.
