Thief Flees the Scene to Beijing, Catches Pneumonia and Forced to Turn Self In

A thief from Hunan ran to Beijing after his crime, but caught pneumonia in the polluted and cold capital and had to return to his hometown and turn himself in.

A burglar who was involved in a group robbery of more than 10,000 Yuan fled the scene and was wanted by PSB organs who posted his identity online. The man hide out in Beijing, but had to leave because the pollution caused his pneumonia to relapse. On December 23, the man fled to his hometown of Hengyang, Qidong, Hunan and turned himself into local police.  

Long, 20, snuck into a residential home in Qidong with his friends Li and Deng, and stole more than 2,000 Yuan in cash, a laptop, two mobile phones, worth a total of more than 10,000 Yuan. After the incident, local police quickly arrested Li and Deng for the robbery.

Long fled Qidong after hearing about his friends’ arrests. One week after Long arrived in Beijing, an old bout of pneumonia that he beaten as a teen flared up again. He could not stay in the cold and polluted city of Beijing, and could not visit a hospital for fear of being identified by police. He went to a private clinic where he did not have to show his ID, and the doctor recommended that he be hospitalized right away. Long decided to return to his hometown and surrender to the police.
