Shocked Woman Receives 22,000 Yuan Phone Bill, Company Won’t Cancel It
Dec 21, 2015 By eChinacities.com

Ms. Hong’s monthly phone bill is generally only about 1,000 Yuan, so she was shocked this past November when she received a bill for more than 22,000 Yuan. Hong’s phone company told her that she had dozens of phone call on her record to Zimbabwe on November 9 and 10. “I have never made an international long distance call, so I had no idea how that happened!” she said.

On 20:08 on November 9, Hong’s phone number called a number in Zimbabwe for 52 seconds. Five minutes after, the person using her phone number called the number again. The person using her phone number continued to make calls to Zimbabwe every five minutes for two days. The longest talk time was 11 minutes.

The two days of international calls added up to a 22,000 Yuan bill. On December 8, Hong’s request to her phone company to cancel the bill was rejected. This, to Hong, was unacceptable. When reporters spoke to the phone company the staff said that the matter was still under investigation, and they will go forward with the proper procedure if an issue was found.

Her "monthly phone bill is generally only about 1,000 Yuan..." ONLY 1,000 RMB? What kind of whacked out plan does she have, I only pay 88 per month.

Yeah. I wondered about that. What the hell is she doing with her phone normally?

Actually, I'd suspect a rogue app before that. Who calls every five minutes for 2 days? In the old days of dial up internet you used to get viruses that would call premium rate numbers to rip you off. This sounds like one of those.

Either way the user was careless with her phone. Not the phone companies fault.

Well with the Google Play store blocked, the only way to download apps for most people using Android is to use one of the Chinese sites. And they are nowhere near as careful about checking for dodgy apps.
