Ningbo Drunk Driver Refuses to Open Car Door for Police

A drunk driver from Ningbo tried to hide from the police in his car after being pulled over for driving in the wrong lane.

Last Tuesday night, Chen from Ningbo was driving his BMW while drunk. While driving, he did not realize that he was in a lane for non-motorized vehicles, and was driving the wrong direction. Police approached his car, and Chen panicked, reversed and hit a parked car.

Police asked Chen to roll down the window for a check. They saw him sitting in his car, red in the face, often a sign of drunk driving. Police asked Chen to undergo a breathalyzer test. However, after repeated requests, Chen just sat in his car, ignoring the police. The two sides were deadlocked for nearly 20 minutes.

“If you do not open the car door, we will soon take coercive measures.” Police saw that persuading him was hopeless and had to call the fire department. Chen continued to ignore the police and refused to cooperate.

In order to the damage the vehicle, firefighters entered the car through the rear window and opened the door. Police then entered the car and took Chen to the local hospital to be tested. Tests showed that Chen’s blood alcohol content was 130 mg/100 ml. He was detained by the police for drunk driving.

"The driver sat motionless and believed if he didn't move, the police wouldn't see him. He then Realized they could see him and he covered his eyes. Police believed the man thought if he couldn't see anyone, no one could see him. Respecting the upstanding citizen and not wanting to anger the invisible driver, firemen gently opened the trunk, laid several quilts down so as not to scratch anything, and very carefully opened the door. Police then took Chen to the hospital rather than the police station and performed several tests to confirm the man was only suffering from the effects of alcohol. After the bribe in the hospital, Chen and the police went to a strip club."
