Illegal Graffiti: Foreign Teen Caught Tagging Shanghai Metro Car

A foreign teenager was “criticized and educated” after drawing a half-naked figure and rock lyrics on the wall of a Shanghai metro car.

Netizens reported graffiti on a Shanghai Metro Line 9 in the first car of a train. A half-naked figure bleeding out of the eyes is drawn in black marker or paint. Under the figure are rock lyrics in English, “Have no plans for me. I will set my soul on fire…” Netizens also reported that spray paint cans were found at the scene.

The foreign teen graffitied the wall on this past Sunday night. Another rider first reported the incident. The rider was able to point out the culprit on surveillance video taken at the station that day. Metro police were able to identity the teen after asking around. He is a 17 year old minor living with his parents in Shanghai.

The teen was “educated and criticized,” and his guardian was asked pay a fine to compensate the city for metro car damage and clean up.

At least in Shanghai and China overall, the walls are clean. In Europe the subway is terrible with graffiti or simple vandalism, that the 'youth' feel the need to create everywhere.

Oh shiite ! We have an urgent, critically severe colossal issue that threatens national security !!! Calling all cops, alert citizens, and able bodied men...be on the lookout for a "foreigner" that did a massively major transgression! An illegal act of...SPRAYPAINTING/SCRAWLING ON PUBLIC TRANSIT! ---Im so glad they caught the perp, no doubt his next caper would have been ______________ (fill in the blank folks, be imaginative and make it comical).

That was before communists took over China, after that the distinction between Mainlanders and Chinese was sharp. Most ethnic Chinese in other parts of Asia, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia....etc. called themselves Taiwanese, Singaporean Chinese, Hongkongers, ON PURPOSE, to set themselves apart from Mainlanders. It has been this way for over half a century already; making ignorance a lame excuse. As a westerner if you want to earn your respect by Asian Chinese at large, an effortless way is to use the word Mainlander when referring to PRC chinese. That will immediately set you apart from naive rookies who can't tell which is which and earn you due respect even among seasoned expats. The failure to distinguish the two is a dead giveaway for rookies. :) Here is a good article on the differences. http://my-new-life-in-asia.blogspot.hk/2014/05/civilised-taiwanese-vs-uncivilised-mainlanders-peng-mingmin-and-anti-mainland-rhetoric.html

It's good that he was educated afterwards. No doubt he learned his lesson and won't do it again.

The-Final-Say

Absolutely! This is a good lesson for us all to know. I guess I will check this one off my "To Do" List, Do not put graffiti on Metro walls. Jeesh, why didn't I think of this? Those walls are meant to remain clean, not for my personal art creations. I can see it now..... "Youth caught tagging Metro car in Shanghai expresses his gratitude for the great and wonderful education he received and tells all his friends that they better not do this".
