Inflatable Sex Dolls a Popular Buy on Singles’ Day

Inflatable Sex Dolls a Popular Buy on Singles’ Day
Nov 20, 2015 By eChinacities.com

Inflatable sex dolls were a hot item during Singles’ Day sales on November 11. The trend seems appropriate in light of the holiday’s theme.

Usually about 500 sex dolls a day are sold online in China. On Singles’ Day, 500 dolls were sold in an hour. At peak, 50 per minute were sold. Most dolls were sold at night.

When you search for “inflatable doll,” on a Chinese e-commerce website, there are about 62,700 search results. The silicon dolls resemble beautiful woman and are generally well-designed. They are sometimes made to look like certain celebrities. The cheapest sex dolls costs less than 100 Yuan, and there are high end models that range from a few hundred to several thousand Yuan.

“As long as you are willing to spend the money, you can buy a hyper-realistic inflatable doll called an entity doll,” said a seller.

One seller said that she sold 1,500 limited time Singles’ Day inflatable dolls on the holiday and 1,000 of various other models.

Another seller’s most popular doll originally cost 557 Yuan and was reduced to 159 Yuan for the holiday month. In 30 days, the shop sold 3,919 dolls. “In fact, several other dolls sold well this month as well,” said the seller.

In the end of 2014, China had 33.76 more men than women, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. For young people born in the 1980s, the gender ratio for singles is 136:100. For those born in the 1970s, it is as high as 206:100. That’s a lot of single guys looking for a companion whether she be real or inflatable.

75 percent of Chinese use sex toys and adult products, and most prefer to buy them online. 65 percent say that adult products are appropriate gifts, and 23 percent have received a sex toy as a gift.

The market for adult products in China experienced a 50 percent annual growth, according to data from Taobao. In 2014, an estimated 30 million Chinese consumed adult products. Chinese sex toy buyers are mainly young adults, and 65 percent are males aged 18 to 29. Chinese under the age of 40 purchased 90 percent of adult products sold in the country this year.

A better solution to gender imbalance than 2 child policy for a 1.3 billion population country. Blame it on Mao, get your free doll from CCP.

You could make the argument that people buying sex toys on Single's Day are doing it right.

Attaching shame to sex is not doing it right. Dolls here are a last resort because they can't go out and just have sexual relationships openly. Sex is something you only do when you're married and trying to have a baby. That type of thinking is archaic.

You are the one attaching shame here. I'm arguing that buying sex toys on Singles' Day is exactly the sort of "I have no reason to feel sad or shamed because I'm single" attitude that Singles' day was actually created for. It's only because you attach shame to buying sex toys in the first place that you've just gone on that rant.

I heard subscriptions to adult websites wet up by something like 1500% too. Those singletons are just so indulgent on their day of celebration.

Wow, I surprised these things are legal in China. But just a sign of the presence of a lonely male population. I bet Japan had similar if not greater sales volumes.

They have an adult attitude when it comes to sex in Japan not like China, where they think sex is only for procreation. Also, hating girls and killing unborn females is a Chinese thing. Do not try to equate China to a civilized society like Japan.

I love it when people adopt the idea that women shouldn't have the right choose to work in porn or the sex industry. If sb is willing to buy and another is willing to sell that is commerce, having the freedom to do so is a sign of a mature society. It is your business not mine. Yes they have an issue with a lot their men being losers. So does China but unlike China, Japan is attempting to address the problem with separate cars. China just ignores the problem . Talk to Chinese women , they'll tell you that they are molested on public transport but there is nothing they can do about it. In China sex/ human trafficking is ongoing and the govt simply ignores it. But you are comparing China's present with Japan's past, is that a fair comparison? Get off your high horse, if there is a market for sex themed hotels , who cares how does it bother you? If someone gets off by watching rape fantasy, tentacle porn or whatever, how does watching adults have sex bother anyone else? At least their society is open enough to allow it. When I was in high school, I loved the Catholic school girl uniforms. If someone wants to live out a fantasy with an adult who cares? Are you too high brow for role playing ? And so what if women are sexualized to men and men are sexualized to women. We are supposed to have sex with each other.

You know you've messed up when you've had to defend women only cars as being a step forwards rather than the victim blaming nonsense they actually are. Don't like China's attitude towards sex? That's fine, I don't either. But if you're going to try to claim that Japan has a healthy, adult attitude towards sex then you really are an idiot. They're messed up in all kinds of ways too.

Care to elaborate? Especially how giving women their own cars is blaming women? I said Japans view is healthy essentially because it is out in the open. Shame is not attached to sex. People are free to have their fantasies and pursue their fantasies without judgement.

You're not even allowed to look at genitals in Japanese porn (which is surely the entire point of porn). That's definitely a messed up attitude to sex. When it comes to the trains, it should never get to the point where women have to be segregated in order to prevent them being molested. And once you have the women only carriages it becomes very simple for the attitude to become "Oh, you were molested? Why weren't you in the woman only carriage?"

I think there's a pretty big difference between American attitudes towards sex and Japanese ones. I think Lord Hanson his the nail right on the head on this one.

Japan aborts more than its fare share of female fetuses. But yes, i will level with you that it is an unfair comparison of Japan to China. I used to teach English here. Now I mainly teach civility. I got really pissed off at the new Bond movie (which was not worth the two hours I wasted in that theater) over one person filming with a phone, one taking screen shots and using a flash, another putting her feet on my chair, and another talking loudly on his phone. That my lesson plan for this week.
