Beijing College Students Hire Substitutes to Take Their Place in Class
Nov 17, 2015 By eChinacities.com

Chinese college students in Beijing are hiring others to attend class in their place for a day, a week, or even an entire semester.

The demand is high, and many young people in Beijing are earning easy money by substituting for other students. Some earn over 1,000 Yuan a month by sitting in four or five lessons a week. Students charge about 70 Yuan per class to sit in for another student and signing them in as present on the roster. The substitute usually takes a photo as proof that they attended the class.

Beijing university professors have said that in some large courses, they do not recognize all of their students, and that it difficult to spot “substitutes.”

There are currently more than 700 online groups dedicated to substituting for others in class. Each group has 200 to 300 members, some have as many as 2,000.

Students mainly substitute for others in English class, Chinese, Marxist philosophy and other humanities courses. P.E. is also a popular option, especially on running days.

This happens in the states too, that's why you must present your ID at exams. Chinese are even known to hire substitutes to take their English competency interview for entering a graduate program. It doesn't work in the long run, my professors said each year there is one that is dumb enough to do that, unaware that they will be discovered a fraud as soon as they meet the professor in charge of their master's program. The professor reports them, and they are immediately discharged from the program. Problem solved?

Englteachted got it right. Even a high school kid knows criminals are everywhere which is why you look at crime rates when you make comparisons.

I don't think you have ever been in a University science and engineering program within a credited American university let alone got a degree from one. By the way, who says troll anymore? I think you have been in China too long. Time to go back to where you came from and get caught up with current cultural lingo. Englteachted=250

Shows what communist education system is really about, all the way from childhood. Rome isn't built in one day.

Good idea. The students could get a job or maybe even study during their class time.
