Manufacturing Slump: 76 Factories Closed in the Pearl River Delta
Nov 02, 2015 By eChinacities.com

China’s manufacturing industry is struggling with the recent downturn of the economy. This year, 76 factories have closed in the Pearl River Delta region, including 27 in Dongguan.

The 76 factories specialized labor-intensive industries in ceramics, furniture, shoes, textiles, toys, packaging, electronics, and LED products.

14 of the companies that closed in the PRD were electronics companies. Four shut down because of lack of orders caused by disputes. 11 of the companies that closed were clothing stores, mainly based in Guangzhou.

It is worth nothing that most data on manufacturing in the area is not accessible to the media. Factories that were closed due to external debt were not included on the list. Small factories often close silently, without notifying the media or local government.

I'm actually kind of surprised the CCP spin doctors didn't take advantage of this by saying it was by design, to decrease pollution. "No, no, the economy is fine. We're just consolidating factories and utilizing more efficient techniques to reduce pollution."
