Heroes or Idiots? “Human Traffic Light” Directs Cars in Shijiazhuang

A broken traffic light led two friends to come up with a creative solution: make their own “human traffic light.” The two men made a large cardboard box with signs that show up for “stop,” and “go,” when they shift direction.

“The traffic light on this intersection has been out for nearly a month. We pass through this intersection every day on our way to work. With no traffic light, we found the intersection very confusing,” said Liu Yifeng, one of the “human traffic lights.” Liu said that he works in the area and saw a number of accidents occur while the light was out. Several of his colleagues came up with the idea together as a temporary solution to help traffic flow during rush hour.

Some thought it was a creative idea, but most were just worried for the two men’s safety. As of press time, traffic police have taken over the intersection during rush hour.

WooMow

I like the creativity of these guys, drawing attention to the problem in a comical way. They probably knew all they had to do something just weird/unoffensive enough to get a story out of it. Then the local police have to get involved to save face. Protesting with Chinese characteristics.
