Delusions are not classified as mental illness? How about repetitive, self-destructive behaviour? Anti-social disorder? Saving fave at any cost? I guess they build personalities as robust as they build houses here.

The-Final-Say

This article is not right at all, no offense to Echinacities. First of all we need to take into account the enormous pressures of not being able to openly date during the adolescent period. In addition, we should consider the enormous amount of homework that students have from age 6 through their final year of high school. Top this off, the Gao Kao examination that they must ace with flying colors just to be accepted into any university causes much hardship and those that do not meet expectations lose opportunities and their family's face. What about the people that randomly go around on the streets shouting at the top of their lungs with no apparent aim? Then you have the financial aspect going into the process of marriage where it is expected men should have a house at least mortgaged and sometimes fully bought, car in other cases, and shower the family with gifts, luxuries, and dowry payments, meaning some men cannot afford marriage. In addition, some women cannot find their Mr. Right before age 27 and parental pressure to rear a child becomes unbearable. Finally, and there is an article from the past several days on this website about it, the huge gender imbalance of men over women, well the mental instability is far more than 4 million. As much as we'd like to applaud China for having such a small percentage reported of mentally ill, this is a far understated figure. While it is possible that many cases are left unreported or undetected, have they also taken into account for those who have committed suicide even? Well.... hope they find a way to help the people in need, just the same. Mental illness is no joke.

Just have a walk along the street, I'll put the number at a bit higher than 4mil... a bus driving through a red light at full speed is not normal, nor is complete narcissism and egoism.

what is classed as a 'mental illness'? Expressing inharmonious thoughts? in Samuel Butler's novel 'Erewhon' illness and poverty are seen as crimes, and criminal behaviour is treated as an illness.
