Police recently picked up a blonde Danish woman found walking on the side of the Shanghai-Hangzhou Expressway highway near Jiaxing, Zhejiang.
She later explained that she had been in China for one week and planned to stay for three weeks. However, she did not have a lot of money, and had to rely on others for help getting from city to city.
The woman could not find a ride to Hangzhou, so she decided to head out on foot on the highway. She carried a paper explaining her need for a ride to Hangzhou in Chinese, and hoped to find a ride while walking on the highway.
The woman told police that she plans to travel to Vietnam after her trip in China.
Police helped the woman get on a bus to Hangzhou, and told her that it is illegal for pedestrians to walk on the side of the highway.
However, the warning had no effect on her, as she was caught again trying to catch a ride in Wenzhou on the highway yesterday afternoon.
