Giant Snapping Turtle Confiscated from Passenger at Kunming Airport

Kunming airport staff had an unusual day last week when a passenger attempted to pack an 18 kg live snapping turtle in his checked baggage. The turtle was confiscated and given to a local zoo.

Snapping turtles are an aggressive species, and post a threat to local fish populations if introduced into a new area. Chinese regulations clearly state that wild animals cannot be transported in checked baggage, and must be treated as cargo.

It's like that movie "Snakes on a Plane" China style... snapping turtles on a plane. Civilized and classy as always China.
