The International Olympic Committee will meet today in Kuala Lumpur to deternine the host of the 2022 Winter Olympics. The two remaining contenders are Beijing and Almaty, Kazakhstan.
It is estimated that 94 members of the IOC will vote in the decision making process. The 128th plenary session of the IOC will begin at 9:00 am on July 31.
Representatives from Beijing and Almaty will make statements and answer questions fielded by the IOC. Each city will then make a 45 minute presentation, and the IOC Evaluation Commission will share their assessment reports. Voting will begin at 4:15 pm, and will be done electronically.
The result of the IOC vote will be announced at 6:50 pm today. The city with the winning bid will sign a contract with the IOC and hold a joint press conference with the committee.
A city needs the majority of IOC votes to win the bid. Voting is done secretly and the break-down will not be shared. If there is a tie, the IOC will re-vote. In the case of a second tie, IOC President Thomas Bach will cast the deciding vote.
