Stunning Photos of a Canal Carved into a Mountain in Hubei

High up in the western mountains of Hubei, an artificial canal has been dug into the side of the mountain. The two meter wide canal runs tens of kilometers along the side of the mountain.

Construction on the canal began in the 1960s and continued for 10 years. Now, the canal brings clean water from the mountain to those in the nearby village.

The canal is known as the “Milky Way,” and is also called “Red Flag Stream,” by locals who live in villages deep in the mountains.

The canal is located in Badong, Enshi and runs from the town of Qingtaiping to Chanyang county in Yichang city.
