Guangzhou Mail Sorters Arrested for Helping Themselves to Package Contents
Jul 13, 2015 By eChinacities.com

Five employees of a courier company were arrested in Guangzhou for stealing items out of express parcels. The suspects were caught on tape stealing from packages while sorting on the job.

The items stolen ranged from small trinkets worth less than 100 Yuan to mobile phones worth several thousand. The thieves were even caught on tape opening packages with food in them and sampling the snacks.

Police have seized more than 200 stolen items from the suspects' homes and workplace including mobile phones, rings, necklaces, headphones, watches, bracelets, mobile charging devices, locks, portable Wi-Fi devices, shoes, clothing, and masks.

The thieves would open the packages illegally, take items out, and then reseal the package so that it looked the same as before it was tampered with.

The five suspects have been detained in Guangzhou, and police are still investigating the case.

I've had several packages disappear en route to my China address (one worth $500). I stopped having anything shipped to it, and now I just wait till I go back to the US in the summer to get everything I need. When I do buy anything in China now, I use strictly cash.

The only thing I have delivered is books, off of Amazon.cn. The packages come straight to my door, I pay what I agreed online, and we are done. Go figure, the one things nongs don't try to steal is books.

Here is the reason why you should ALWAYS use the "cash on delivery" method of payment when it is available (JD.com, many Taobao shops, Suning, ...), a number of companies don't require you to sign on delivery, there is no way you ever gotta get a refund if the thief stole the package and checked "delivered" on their database.
